Finding the right accommodation for your pet
This is Fur & Far’s own stay checklist. “Pet friendly” is not one set of rules — confirm the property’s written policy for your dates before you pay.

Start with stays that welcome animals
Use a pets-allowed search so you are not browsing properties that refuse animals. Filters are a starting point, not a guarantee — still open that stay’s own pet policy.

Read that property’s pet policy
Check which animals are welcome, how many per room, and whether cats, small pets or only dogs are accepted. Policies differ between hotels, even in the same chain.

Match size, breed and number
Confirm weight limits and breed rules against your Pet Passport notes. Be honest when you book. A listing that does not fit can mean being turned away or extra charges at check-in.

Know the cost before you pay
Ask whether the pet fee is per night or per stay, whether a deposit is held, and whether cleaning is extra. Budget for this separately from the room rate.

Ask the practical questions
Can the pet be left in the room if crated? Are pets allowed in dining areas, on balconies, or only in certain rooms? Request a ground-floor room or a room away from lifts if that will keep them calmer.

Call the property
Online filters are a start. Reception can confirm the current rule for your dates, your pet’s size and whether a pet-friendly room is actually available.

Check the neighbourhood
Look for a relief area, a nearby walk, a veterinarian, and a place to buy food if plans change. A well-listed hotel is still a poor stay if there is nowhere safe to walk.

Read recent pet-owner reviews
Search reviews for fees, staff attitude and whether the written policy matched the stay. Policies change, so prefer recent comments.

Pack for the room
Bring a carrier or crate, waste bags, a towel, usual food and a familiar bed. Use the checklist above, then shop the catalogue if anything is missing.
