Before departure

Check that identification is current and introduce restraints, hammocks or carriers gradually. Pack water, food, medication, cleaning supplies and a familiar blanket where it cannot become a driving hazard.

Secure travel

Choose equipment appropriate to your pet and vehicle, follow manufacturer instructions and comply with applicable road rules. Never connect a vehicle restraint to a collar.

Breaks and heat

Plan safe stops away from traffic. Offer water regularly and never leave a pet unattended in a parked vehicle.

Air travel requirements vary by airline, route, aircraft, destination, breed and season. Confirm every requirement directly before booking.

Start early

Contact the airline and your veterinarian well before travel. Ask about approved carrier dimensions, weight limits, documentation, health checks and check-in procedures.

Choose the carrier carefully

Your pet should be able to stand naturally, turn around and lie down. A product described as airline-style is not automatically accepted by every airline.

Use a lead in shared spaces, prevent barking where you can, and never leave a pet on a balcony or unattended in a parked car.

Not every trip can include your pet. When work, flights, venues or timing mean they stay behind, a steady home routine still counts as travel care.

Keep feeding and water reliable

If a trusted person cannot visit, timed feeding and a fresh-water plan help routines stay familiar. Introduce any new feeder or fountain well before you leave.

People and check-ins

Ask a sitter, neighbour or boarding provider to confirm visits, keys and emergency veterinary contacts. Share medication instructions in writing.
